Opening doors is not really something you would associate with a cat or really any animal for that matter unless your a big Jurassic Park fan. I remember the first film back in 1993, and I remember how the dinosaur’s could open doors. However even then we are not talking about a cat opening doors. I first realized that cat’s can open doors back when I still had Tiger. It was when Dan the irresponsible caretaker went and got Tiger and brought him back to me in a cardboard box. As far as hyperactivity and being into everything Tiger was worse than he was the first time around, and I had to retrain him because being in the wild Tiger had forgotten all of my training that I did with him and had to find for himself.

It was about a month after I got Tiger back and started training him again that I realized he could open doors. The door knobs were those lever type of door knobs. That is what made it so easy for Tiger to open door’s. What made me nervous about Tiger being able to open doors is that the front door had a lever type of door knob as well. The good thing about the front door was that it had a special locking mechanism on it and I kept that front door to the apartment locked so Tiger wouldn’t get out. So as you probably have already guessed part of what I was incorporating into training Tiger for a second time around was to stop jumping up and opening doors. A question that people did ask me was the following; was it harder to train Tiger for a second time after he had gotten loose? The answer was yes. Oh and fun fact the door that the dinosaur was opening on Jurassic Park had a lever door knob as well if memory serves me correctly and that is why the dinosaur could open the door.

So getting back to Tiger being able to open door’s, the fact that the front door had the special locking mechanism didn’t really put me at ease, at first just because of the fact that he could open doors to begin with. One of my friends that I told that Tiger could open the door even said that is not good. Eventually I was like ok the locking mechanism works so stop stressing about it so I actually did stop stressing about it and also eventually Tiger went back to the guy that I got him from named Alex and Alex took Tiger back to his family’s place in Colorado. If you want to know how that all happened I encourage you to check out my other blog which was kind of the foundation and starting point for this blog. That blog gave me a chance to play around with this idea of starting a blog and helped me to figure out where I wanted to go with things regarding blogging. However not long after Tiger went to Colorado to be with Alex’s family I got two more kittens and they were Tiger’s kittens. We would refer to them as Tiger’s babies. They were in that phase where they were between kitten and adult at least size wise that is. Basically they were still kittens but they were getting big, and they were active. They were so cute running around the apartment. However once I found out that they too could open door’s like Tiger could I was like oh boy this is not good. I used the locking mechanism for the door so they wouldn’t be able to get out of the apartment and that put me at ease like it did with Tiger. It got to where it was cute to see them opening the doors. Especially the Calico, and especially if it was one of the closet doors. it would be night time and I would be setting in the bed doing work and all of a sudden I would hear one of the closet doors opening and the calico cat would be hanging off the lever type door knob, and the door would be opening slowly. I would laugh when I would see that and I would tell my parents about it and I would tell friends about it and they would think it was funny too. I would see the black and white cat do it too and it would also be equally funny but I don’t know there was something about when the calico was hanging from the door knob of the slowly opening door. I felt more at ease when they changed the main apartment door knobs to regular door knobs.
