Hello, my dear readers. I know I haven’t posted in a while. Issues or I guess you could say life just kept coming up. In the world of journalism, the newspaper or magazine or whatever publication I could be writing for probably would have pulled my column or something. Or I guess there would also be the option of hiring a ghost writer until everything could be sorted out. The weird part of the issue of me not writing for a while or posting for a while was that every time, I was brainstorming trying to get back to blogging again or plan start writing again. Or every time I had an idea for a blog post something else would come up. I was really hoping to get back to blogging in August when I knew that wasn’t looking like it was going to happen, I said OK I’ll shoot for September. Well, that didn’t work either. This week wasn’t looking much better. but I just told myself ok I am just going to sit down and write this before anything else happens or has the potential to happen. looking back and trying to get ready to start writing again for this blog I saw that my last post was my grandmother’s funeral.
Speaking of funerals, this is a little bit off the subject, as well as old news but I do want to talk about the recent passing of Shannon Doherty. I didn’t realize until 2001 just how much work other than charmed that she had actually done in Hollywood. That was right at the time that she got her DUI, and it was also announced that she would be leaving charmed. It was also right at that time that I found out that before charmed she was actually a series regular in Beverley Hills 90210. I remembered that show from when I was in grade school 2nd or 3rd grade because the girl that babysat me and my brother use to watch it and when she would come over we would watch it together and I remember being curious when I found out at the time of her DIU and of her soon to be exit from charmed and started looking up pictures on the internet of Beverly Hills 90210 and was like wow that is her. The write up on the internet that I was reading about her DUI and her soon to be exit from the hit tv series charmed, went into her back story about how she didn’t get along with Jenny Garth on 90210 and the media at that time was portraying her as basically just not a good person. There were quite a bit of works of hers that I found out about later on as well. It was 210 and about November and I was doing things around the house and I caught an episode of pretty little liars, and I actually thought it was an episode of charmed because I saw that Holly Marie Combs was in it. Holly Marie Combs played Piper Halliwell and was good friends if not best friends with Shannon Doherty in real life. The episode is where there was a dance going on and Holly Marie Combs who played Ella Montgomery in the series of Pretty Little Liars was helping with the dance and she went behind the coats counter to help get the coats for the students who were leaving and it was apparent that the dance was over and this figure that you never saw his or her face but the hands were gloved by black gloves and the hands hand Ella Montgomery (Holly Marie Combs) the ticket and she gets the coat for the person who has the black gloved hands and it ends with Ella Montgomery (Holly Marie Combs) telling the figure wearing the black gloves “I hope you had a good time tonight.” and she smiles and it ended just like that. I remember thinking that was creepy, and by the color tone used in that episode of Pretty Little Liars it looked like it was scary or meant to be scary or had a scary genre to it, and I think that is why i thought it was an episode of charmed. I believe that was the first season of Pretty Little Liars because I remember the recession was still going on and I found myself moving back in with my parents. At that time I found out the suicide rate was very high. One of the highest it had ever been. I found myself at that time rewatching a lot of the episodes of charmed and I was also a regular viewer of pretty little liars after that episode and I found out that the tv show was actually pretty little liars and that Holly Marie Combs was in it. It was at that time that I found out that she had been a child actor in Little House on the Prairie. If the age of 11 is what you would call a child actor, but child actor, pree teens whatever you want to call it. I was more than likely a small child at the time. However I also found out that she was the older sister in the tv show Our House. That is another Character that I didn’t know was her and found myself looking back at that tv show and pictures from that tv show thinking that is her. I am thinking she had to have been early teens at that time. I was also amazed at some of the movies that she did that I didn’t know about some of them being pretty big movies. I think alot of us thought that the DUI inncident kind of damaged her career but it didn’t seem to and the media portraying her as not a good person at that time I think worked because I think a lot of people were thinking that she wasent a good person. However I couldn’t help but like her. and I was one of those people at that time frame that thought she probably wasent a good person. but I loved her in charmed and as much as I loved her replacement in charmed it just wasent the same without Shannon Doherty. It was around that time that I read in an online article that after she had left charmed she still had money coming in from charmed, and I read in another online article that she had certain rights to the series percentage wise. I remember when I first saw the pilot of charmed back in 1998, and I thought she looked a lot like the actress Lindsey Price. Because of that I wondered if she didn’t have some kind of Asian Lineage. Apparently I wasent the only one that thought that because there were some online forums that I found back in 2010 where there was a question about her heritage and if she might be asian.
I find it very coincidental that I mention Lindsey Price because she was actually in a tv series that was a lot like charmed a long with Rebecca Romain Stamos and someone that I am not familiar with. In the credits on the Internet Movie Database, it says the other woman is Jamie Ray Newman. Also, according to the Internet Movie Database, It only ran for one season. I probably would have watched it if I had known about it. However, it did look a lot like charmed. The reason that it liked like it was a lot like charmed might have been the reason the series didn’t do well. I say that because my mother saw an interview back in the late 90’s where they were interviewing Christine Lahti who is best known for her role as Kate Alston on Chicago Hope. She told the people interviewing her that; “she was in a movie kind of like Thelma and Louis, but once you already have a movie like that a lot of times one that has a similar story line doesn’t do well.” I don’t know what talk show that was on where actress Christine Lahti said that, but I am wondering if that is what happened here with this particular tv series called Eastwick starring Lindsay Price. There was also blood and oil, there were a lot of people who claimed that that particular tv show sounded a lot like Dallas. I saw the previous for it and I guess I kind of thought the same thing, but the previews looked really good, and I am a big fan of both Don Johnson and Chase Crawford and that is why I watched it. However, it only lasted one season as well and I was wondering if it was because of the fact that people thought it was too much like Dallas. I didn’t think it was like Dallas at all other than the fact that oil was the main theme.
I was very happy that she started working again after her cancer diagnosis a second time, and obviously Hollywood thought she looked Asian too because the last movie that I saw her in was an LMN movie about an Asian woman played by Kelly Hu who had put her daughter up for adoption when she had her at a very young age and, and she sets out to find her daughter after a terminal illness diagnosis. Shannon Doherty played the daughter’s adoptive mother.
I was just glad that back in 2008 both Shannon Doherty and Jennie Garth really worked things out and were able to work together again on the Reboot of 90210. They worked things out so well that according to another right up that I saw in the time frame of probably 2011 Tori Spelling had started a reality show together and according to the website that was covering the story about Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling’s new reality show Spelling was asked by the person interviewing her about the new show hosted by Garth and Spelling “who they would like to have as a guest on the new show?” Tori Spelling replied, “we would like to have Shannon.” When I tried to go back to find that particular story that had covered Jennie Garth and Tori Spellings new reality show I really couldn’t find that particular article. A lot of times when it goes back a way’s it can be a little bit hard to find that particular story. Sometimes there can be a lot to look through. However, I didn’t really know what the title of the reality show was. My first thought was that it was Accidently in love because it seems like the article, I read said that they were doing a reality show together. But I recently watched a you tube video for research purposes for this blog post and the video was an interview with spelling and they showed a clip that only showed spelling hosting the show. However, this clip was not very long, but Garth was nowhere to be scene. I know that when there is a tv show involving two hosts there are certain times when one of them can’t be on that day. Maybe that was the case here. My point is I am not sure how they could have had Shannon Doherty as a guest on their reality show because she had her own reality show at the time where they were documenting her experience planning her wedding to her most recent ex-husband. The Main Idea of Jenny Garth and Tori Spellings reality show titled accidentally in love was that there were a certain number of couples in one big Dwelling, however not all of these couples were actually a couple. They were just paired up to pose as a couple for the show, but the audience didn’t know that and according to the YouTube video on the New York Channel spelling didn’t know who the real couples were and who the fake couples were and if Spelling didn’t know then probably Jenny Garth didn’t know either. The reason I bring all of this up is because Shannon Doherty’s last marriage was so publicized everyone knew who her fiancé was so I don’t see how she could have been brought on as a guest unless they brought her on as a guest host. I was thinking that it could have been the detective tv series that the article that I previously mentioned in this where Spelling was telling the interviewer that they would like to have Shannon as a guest, because both Garth and Spelling stared together in that detective series Mystery Girls. However, I contradicted myself on that because I was like know that series was after her first cancer diagnosis. Then I got on the Internet Movie Database to actually do the research and I found out that the tv series titled Mystery Girls started in 2014. Shannon Doherty was first Diagnosed with cancer in 2015 according to a google AI search that I did. So, there is a good chance it might have been the tv series titled Mystery girls, but I am very sure the article was talking about a reality show and that reality show that I referenced earlier seems to be more in the time frame.
I believe it was back in 2021 when I started seeing write ups about Shannon Doherty’s cancer return. Those writeups were talking about basically how she was I guess trying to get her stuff in order and prepare for her death and keep the relationships that were good on a good level and mend the ones that needed to be mended. A part of me felt very sorry for her, but then a part of me was like no she is going to find a way to beat this a second time around. I really thought that I really thought she was worried for nothing. I think we all thought that because we had seen her struggles throughout her career and that was often through the tv, magazines, or through online news, and the character’s that she played were always very strong-willed characters. Apparently according to Holly Marie Combs’s YouTube video paying tribute to Shannon Doherty, Her and Shannon didn’t think she was going anywhere anytime soon either. It also looked like she was getting better. Not only was she going back to work but she was working with some pretty big names in the entertainment Industry. I was also very happy when I found out that she and Holly had their own podcast titled let’s be real. Because of that I thought oh yeah, she is not going anywhere.
I thought that one of Shannon Doherty’s greatest accomplishments was her book Badass. I loved that book. It had a lot of insight on her point of view and perspective on things and not only that. I learned how to make Chilean Seabass from that book. It also went into a little more detail briefly about her and Alyssa Milan’s issues on the set of charmed. Notice I said briefly. I feel like briefly is the key word because it never really confirmed anything. However, it is a badass book. Those of you who haven’t read it should check it out she did have a lot of good ideas and viewpoints on some things.
There are several reasons why I feel like my mind is a little bit cloudy about that time frame is because I had a lot going on at that time. I think we all did. I remember most people I talked to at that time. They were saying they had a lot going on, and I remember the year before that everyone I knew was having nothing but problems. My mother was working for Health and Human Services at the time that I had moved back in with my parents for a year, and I remember telling my mother that everyone in town just seems depressed or something, referencing to the days and weeks prior that I had gone into town to run some errands or shop for dinner because I had taken over a lot of the household chores at that time because I was the only one not working. She said she was getting the same vibe at work that people were just unhappy and depressed. Basically a lot has happened sense then as we all well know. When I did finally go back to work after that year of living with my parents one of my co workers was telling me Everyone is having problems right now particularly family problems.” I just know that in 2011 when Accidentally in love was on the air I moved back home not only due to the recession, but there were just some other things going on really I did everything to keep from having to move back home but it was just looking like it was time I moved back home just looking at where I was and where I was trying to go. And when I got home I immediatley got busy with getting myself on a scheduele. I would get up and see my parents off to work a lot of times I would help them prepare breakfast but after they were gone I would go for my morning run and then come home and immediately start busing myself with household chores and basically I took on the role of housewife while I was home for a year, but when the chores done I would go to the computer and browse the job boards. Basically I was trying to keep myself busy. Oh and I was also trying to get a certification online for a specific job that I wanted and I knew that might take some time.
I remember the day I found out that Shannon Doherty had passed away and it was that evening that she passed away that I found out. I had not such a good week and I was spending the evening of July 13, 2024, just kind of laying in the bed with the cat’s and reading some of my online books every once in a while, taking some time to check a text message or my google mail and that’s when I saw the write up that Shannon Doherty had passed away. I couldn’t believe it I was like no this is just some internet hoax. But when I googled her that pretty much confirmed it. I read the articles that were on google about her sudden passing. I was sad at first but it was a day or two later when I had pretty much read everything that was written about her online about her split from her recent husband the photographer, and in one of those online articles I believe it said, “she wasn’t getting any spousal support from her ex photographer husband and he was actually hoping she would die so he wouldn’t have to pay alimony. The online article also said that the network that the reruns of charmed were on were going to stop running the reruns of charmed. Because of that she was not going to have the same type of income that she was used to. Her monthly income was going to go down. My thinking is that after that things were probably going to get pretty depressing for her. I mean even though she was doing better with her medical condition before things took a turn for the worst, she did still have that to think about.” So that makes me feel better about her situation and it makes me feel better because now she is in a better place.
I wanted to go into a little more detail about why I was gone so long. So I guess it all started in April of 2023 my sink had fallen through the kitchen cabinet of that crappy apartment that I was living in. Yes you heard correctly, and this was the secound time that had happened. They didn’t just get right on it but it did get fixed a few days later. Paul the office manager of the apartment complex was arrived with the maintenance crew to make sure everything went smoothly. I actually really appreciated him doing that, and really I thought ok 2nd time is a charm it will be ok. That next week Maybe my sink situaion was ok but for maintenance things were not ok. I mean everything was breaking down, and the maintenance guy at the apartments was running around from apartment to apartment I could tell he was swamped with work order. See he wore your typical attire that maintenance guys would wear, such as work pants with a button up work shirt. He was a black man about early to mid twenties and he wore his dreads. but it was down and under a cap. That whole his hair was pulled up in a ponytail and pulled through the little plastic part that tightens the cap on your head. He just looked busy not to mentioned stressed. But, I mean that place was really starting to fall apart. Well after that crazy week for the maintenace guy, he left. I don’t think it was the actually the week he left that I found out the maintenance guy just quitting like that I think it was the week after he left, because I remember all of a sudden it was april and I needed to see about renewing my lease. He asked me if I had a pet and I said yes two cats and he told me that they werent listed on the lease. I told him that I came into the office in person when the previous office manager was there and told her that I now had two cat’s. But that right there might have been the main reason why the information didn’t get put in my folder or my file, or my portal, or my profile or however they do it these days, the reason being because they go through office managers pretty regular at those apartments. About as often as someone would change their underwear. Well maybe not that frequently but little joke. I do have another theory on why that information didn’t get put with my renters information but I feel like that’s something that I need go into on a future post. So I guess for the most part everything was ok or about as ok as it was going to be because there was still one problem. I didn’t exactly have two cat’s I had four, I really wanted to tell him the truth, but I felt like it was best to just leave it at that for the time being and that if he asked about it I would burn that bridge when we got there, or if we got there. Things went really smoothly until we got to August and that is still not even where it get’s crazy. Paul the office manager announced in memo that he was being transfered to another property in the city. So we got another new office manager. I remember one of her first days on the job there was some comotion one building over in the complex and one of tennants that I guess I kind of new was yelling he was trying to get his blankety blank cat. I kind of walked out of my apartment with this snear on my face like what is going on and she was telling the guy who was a tennant in the complex that she undertands but that is so and so’s unit and blah blah blah. He ended catching his cat and walked away the whatever it was. I don’t know because of that incident I didn’t think I was going to like her, but I just went about with my business the tennant that I was aquaintences with got his cat she walked and there didn’t seem to be any more reason for my concern. But I mean I don’t know If it was my cat I would have done the same thing, but I mean she really didn’t know any of us yet so how did she really know whose unit that was. But then who knows she might have known whose unit that was because they put in a work order on her first day of work and she maybe needed to be in there to make sure everything went smoothly. Really my point to this is that I just didn’t understand why that such a fuss. I mean the tenant was probably walking his cat around the complex, and there’s shubbery around the patios of the first floor apartments so the cat probably jumped out of the tennants arms all of a sudden and went for the shrubbery or into the shrubbery and he was trying to get it out of the shrubs that were growing around the patio. So she was probably like what are doing what’s going on. You as the audience are probably thinking well she was just doing her job. Yes but Now that I think about it and because I know her a better now than I did then because she had just started working there. She is the biggest drama queen, and she makes a fuss about smallest things, and that probably escalated the situation and it probably pravoked him.
Now that I have gotten that part of the story out of the way I want to shift a little bit and talk about what this blog is supposed to be about and talk about what I wanted to talk to you about today. What I wanted to talk to you about today was helping your new cat or kitten get use to you and to your home. Which is basically their new surroundings. I didn’t have time to think or go shopping for stuff. When my business partner’s and I were on a conference call Alex, who was basically my boss said he needed someone to take his cat for a week. I kind of wanted to volunteer but I was like no Kyle you’re still building your career. So, there was a silence on the line. Then Tony spoke up saying Kyle can take him. I kind of grinned and said OK! Then I asked is this that tiger striped kitten? Yes, Alex replied. After the conference call was over, I guess I forgot about it. I woke up at my usually early morning time which was 4:00am and went to the gym. I was pretty much done with my workout and heading to the locker room when I got a text from Alex saying, “Kyle I got the cat ready can we meet somewhere?” I was thinking wow he was serious. I guess I just really didn’t think he was serious. I texted Alex back saying, “I’m on my way to my apartment, you can meet me there.” I got there first and just kind of left the door cracked when I got in because I knew I was going to be expecting company, and I was thinking should I have agreed to this? I just kind of reassured myself that Alex said it was only going to be a week. Well Alex got to the apartment with the cat I helped Alex get the litter box food and some toys from his car and brought them up to my second-floor apartment. I let the cat out to roam around and he went under the bed. Me and Alex chatted for a bit and then Alex had to go take care of some business at the office. I decided to stay around the apartment for the morning just to make sure the cat was settling in ok. He seemed to be more curious about his new surroundings than anything. He was into everything. I admit there were some of my clothes and items kind of strung about and I think that’s a lot of what made him curious of his new surroundings. Alot of his mannerisms while he was exploring were kind of funny. Eventually I left to go to the office that I worked at with Alex. Most of the issue with that particular cat, his name was Tiger by the way. was he liked to tear things up so to me that counted as a behavioral issue, and he particularly like playing with the blinds and looking out the window and I could just see that as being an issue. I asked other cat owners what they did to get them to stop doing certain things and I put those into practice and little by little the behaviors that I wanted tiger to unlearn he pretty much did. Those practices were mainly to just kind of spank his head and say no when he was engaging in those behaviors that I wanted him to stop. Now there are more human ways to get cats to unlearn those undesired behaviors, however those ways are talked about in books and at that time my job with Alex was just starting and it was a new company. So I kind of didn’t really need to be going out and buying a bunch of books at wherever your local book dealer is. Your probably thinking couldn’t you just get them on your phone from Amazon? It would have been cheaper, but at that time I wasn’t sure I needed to be spending money on even that. I am sure your other question is Well Alex said it would only be for a week. Well, that’s what Alex said but it ended up week two rolled around before I knew it and Alex really wasn’t chomping at the bit to get Tiger back. So, I asked When are you wanting to come get Tiger? Long story short Alex did come get Tiger the next day. But that following week he asked me to take him back because he was Allergic to Tiger. Alex did eventually take Tiger back because his parents had bought some land in Colorado, and we all thought that would be good for Tiger because he would have more room to run and play. Well Tiger ended up breading with a cat whose owners had a place nearby and Alex got two of the kittens and brought them to me. With Tiger he was I think just really curious about the stuff strewn about in the apartment plus he had toys, so it wasn’t such a culture shock for him to be in a new place. The two new kittens that were descendants of Tiger really didn’t have a very hard time adjusting either. But they had each other, and I still had a lot of Tigers toys that I forgot I had. The Calico kitten slept under the bed for a while, but the black and white cat warmed up to me instantly. Eventually the black and white cat came around. As far as helping the cat adjust to your place of residents just remember when you’re getting the basic stuff that the cat would need don’t forget to get toys. and remember treats help too. These are two things that I always seem to forget. According to https://www.purina-arabia.com/; “If you’re giving away a kitten or selling a kitten or just basically rehoming a kitten, please remember to include some toys or just something familiar from your place of residence, because the kitten you’re giving away needs time to adjust to it will make the adjustment phase a lot easier if they have toys or something familiar from your place of residents.” My Calico cat had kittens, and it was the 2nd time she had, had kittens and this was a litter of 8 kittens. Most of the kittens adjusted just fine to their new home. However, there was one that I gave to a very nice couple who had a house in the La Cantera Hills of San Antonio. WellI got a text the next day saying that the kitten was really depressed and really sad and wouldn’t eat.
I mean I could understand she probably missed her siblings, I felt so bad for that kitten. Luckily, she had a friend that knew a lot about and she came over and they eventually got her to eat and now she is doing great. My point is the transition phase wouldn’t have been so traumatic for that kitten if I had known to include toys when I was getting her ready to take her to her new owners. I was still kind of new at this cat parenting thing.
