So this passed week was Halloween! That is always fun! I saw a lot of cool costumes. I was just glad that I got to do this one thing this Halloween that I have wanted to do since I moved to San Antonio, but was never able to because of lack of money, or I had to take a co worker home after work. Now we are in the Month of November and winter season and Turkey season. What I wanted to talk to you about today is animals that you would see in pet store. We have all seen that cute little cat or kitten in the pet shop, or that dog or puppy in the pet shop that we can’t get over how cute it is. Back in the 90’s these cats would have cost a lot of money according to Carolyn Janik and Ruth Rejnis both author of the book The complete idiot’s guide to living with a cat.

I remember seeing a puppy on display at a popular mall that I went to all the time when I was in grade school or maybe preteen. this was a very popular mall in West Texas. I remember he was sort of in the entry way but part of the open area that he was in was a little bit outside of the little store. I don’t remember how much the puppy was, but I remember he was drawing quite the crowd. I do remember that it was in the hundreds. I remember looking at the price tag hanging on that display area covered with shredded paper that the puppy was in and thinking some day.

Also according to Carolyn Jankik and Ruth Rejnis in their book, titled The complete idiot’s guide to living with a cat; a lot of these dog’s and cat’s that were on display at pet stores during that time period were considered to be the runts of the liter’s that they came from. The employee’s of these pet stores would sort of just keep that little fact under the wraps. However is a runt of the liter really a bad thing when adopting a pet? If the dog, or cat, puppy, or kitten is getting a good home that is really all that should matter, and if people are willing to pay that kind of money for them, and I know people that have paid that kind of money for pet’s then they are probably getting a good home. Also, if the people that are buying these dogs and cats or puppies or kittens have kids then that is even better because pet’s are good for kids.

However what is wrong with being the runt of the liter of kittens or puppies. One of the things I have noticed when picking out people to date is that sometimes it is their imperfections that make them attractive. I also knew a girl in my early twenties that had a cute little chihuahua, and she told me that she was the runt of the litter and that is why she picked that particular puppy. she just couldn’t get over how cute the little puppy was!

These day’s there is pet smart and pet co. What I have found is that a lot of times these stores will have pure breed’s and the prices aren’t the $300 to $800 you would have to pay getting a kitten or a puppy or a dog or cat from a dog breeder. However a lot of these animals in the Pet smart and Pet Co stores will also be of mixed breeds as well, but there is always a little slip of paper on the cage the animal is in that gives you the details of the particular animal and the breed that the animal is is always included. Price wize these animals are anywhere from $75.00 to $125.00 to $175.00.
