It has been a few weeks since my last post. These past few weeks god and the universe just wanted everything to happen all at the same time. It started out with my parents having marital problems and then my mother decided that was the time that she wanted to take a trip to Ruidosa, New Mexico. Then all of a sudden, I got this new job the second week, then my mom and my brother who has been living with my parents temporarily came to see me in San Antonio, then the third week my brother got a new job in San Antonio and was planning a move. From there the deal was that my brother was just not sure when the right time was for him to move to San Antonio and show up at his new job. Then things started happening around the house certain things were not working you know the usual stuff.

While all of this chaotic stuff was going on Spooky season had come upon us. I was out with friends having drinks to just get out of the house and socialize like an actual human being I realized that it was at this time last year that me and my friend Tony had gone out to talk about business and this is where he told me that the guy that we went into business with named Alex who we thought was our friend was actually stealing money from the company that the three of us had started together. Tony wanted me to end all contact with Alex which I was glad too. There was only one thing with that. I still had to find out something to do with the Orange cat that I was keeping for Alex. I just said you know what screw it I am keeping the cat, It texted Alex saying; Alex, moving forward I wish to not associate myself with you. Have a great evening. I got no response from the text message so he was apparently fine with that. I think that I was just someone else that he had to deal with so for him, he was probably thinking good riddance. It was after I basically told Alex off through text messaging that I went and had a drink with Tony and we discussed business and future plans for the business. Although it was a great night out, I still had to adjust to the idea of three cat’s. The thought of that really angered me. I felt like the single parent whose spouse left him or her with the kids and just took off and now this singe mother or father was left to raise that kid or kids on his or her own. There is a lot of anger that comes from that with the single parent who is left to do the parenting all by himself or herself. He or she has to take on both roles the mother role and the father role and that is not always the easiest thing to do. Although I loved the orange cat I didn’t feel like I was giving him the attention he deserved and I thought it was because I was still angry at Alex for putting me in that situation.

However, I am sure all of that is very interesting to my reader’s but that’s not what I wanted to talk to you about today. I have posted in my previous blog post’s on another domain about animal shelters and how if your looking for a pet that a lot of times an animal shelter is a good place to look. Your probably thinking yeah but I want a pure breed and most of the time the animals in the animal shelter are mixed with something. That’s what I thought but you would be surprised just how many pure breeds their actually are in animal shelters. Before I got my cat’s I was always saying that I wanted a chihuahua and there was this one day back in 2018 where the apartment complex that I was living in at the time was having a party and a woman at the Bexar county animal shelter had a booth set up their and a friend of mine whose name I will not disclose due to privacy reasons brought me over to her booth and introduced me to her also explaining to her that I was the one that she was telling her about, the one that wanted a chihuahua. The woman from the animal shelter told me that they always have chihuahua’s at the shelter. I was very happy that my apartment complex was really encouraging tenants to have pets. It is not uncommon for someone who is wanting a pet or thinking about getting a pet, and really want’s a pure breed and has it in their minds of what they want as far as a pure breed to walk into a shelter and just fall in love with a dog or a cat that they were not intending to adopt and leave the shelter with the one they saw and immediately wanted. Most of the time it is not even close to what they wanted. This happened with a friend of mine. According to the book titled the complete idiots guide to living with a cat most towns and cities have a shelter for animals. The goal of these shelters is to find homes for these stray dogs and cat’s that are brought into these shelters, but what people don’t know is that it is very costly to run an animal shelter. A lot of the people that I know that have adopted animals from a shelter felt really good about their decisions because they felt like they had saved a life of a living being that someone had probably lost or maybe their owner had intentionally abandoned. What a friend of mine told me that had gotten two dogs from an animal shelter is that if they are not adopted after a certain number of days that they will inject the animal with something that will kill it. The thought of that makes me sad.

Different shelters will have different guidelines that the the person who is considering adopting a pet will need to follow for the adoption to take place. There will be forms and you will have to provide references. I was leary about putting that piece of information into this post because what if some abusive person adopts an animal from a shelter or something. A friend would probably be a reference to someone who is abusive and not know that they are abusive. Or a friend may very well agree to be a reference for someone who is abusive and have full knowledge that they are abusive. These days anything is possible. What I didn’t know or really didn’t even think about is that there are some shelters who do not allow animals to be adopted during the holidays because they might be adopted and given to someone as a Christmas gift only to find out that the person they were given too didn’t want a pet and then they are returned to a shelter or taken to a different shelter, that put’s that dog or cat right back in the same situation that they were in before. The complete idiots guide to living with a cat had a creative and I happen to think cute idea for if your wanting to give an animal from a shelter as a gift for Christmas or a birthday or just because.

The idea is to gift wrap a stuffed animal of a dog or a cat to give to the person that you are wanting to get the pet for with a hand written note or card saying a cat is to follow it a kitten is to follow or a puppy is to follow or a dog is to follow. Also another helpful piece of advice in this book is that there are shelters that will offer gift certificates or cards that you can give with the stuffed animal. If you are really serious about adopting a pet or in the thought process a good idea is to call the shelter you are wanting to adopt the pet from and ask them advice on how to prepare for the new pet. Such as things they need to buy for the new pet or things that they might need to bring with them when they pick up the new pet they have just adopted.

Another thing that might be helpful if you are wanting to get a pet from a shelter or if you are still in the thought process about it is to look around you and observe your surrounding’s and the environment that the animals are currently in. The complete idiots guide to living with a cat suggests to take note of whether or not the shelter you are visiting is a clean environment, the book also suggests taking note on if the cages or clean. One thing to keep in mind of with whether or not the cages are clean is that you never know when an animal has to go to the bathroom. Animals are not toilet trained like we humans are. When you gotta go you gotta go. As far as whether the facility is clean or not I could see why people who have children would consider that an issue because of the fact that unclean facilities could have an effect on the animals health and then when you bring it home to your kids who are going to want to play with that animal you are putting their health at risk. This is also true if you are having older people coming in and out of the home such as your parents who would also be grandparents to your children. It would also be good to consider this if these older people might be actually living in the home with you and your children.

The complete idiots guide to living with a cat also suggests that when you are visiting a shelter for animals go when you have a few hours or even a day off that way you can really have time to look and see which ones really jump out at you! Not literally of course but a better term for that would be you would have time to see which ones really stand out to you. Another thing the book suggests is if there are two animals in a cage that look cute together or might be from the same batch of kittens or just might be good friends it might be a good idea to take them both. A lot of times two is better than one. You have to remember that when your adopting an animal and bringing them home for the first time they are in new territory this can be scary for the new pet at first. Having a friend there two or there brother or sister would defiantly make the transition easier. See when the two cat’s that I have now were shipped down to me from one of the mountain states I was only suppossed to keep one of them, but when I brought them home and let them out of the carrier the black on white kitten (the boy cat was eager to explore his new surroundings and came out of the carrier first. It was the Calico ( the girl cat that was shy and stayed in the carrier for a while. I am told by people that know about cat’s that the shyness with the calico. That is just calico cat’s. However, when the black and white cat ( the boy cat was finished exploring his new territory he went back to the carrier and was standing out side of the carrier meowing to the calico kitten and the calico kitten was meowing back it was like they were having a conversation it was cute. It was like the black and white kitten was telling the calico that it was alright and that there was nothing to be afraid of.

Another piece of helpful information provided by the complete idiot’s guide to living with a cat is that sometimes members of animal shelters will market the pet’s that they have in the shelters. This could be in shopping mall’s, fair’s, outside or inside of PetSmart or pet co is a big one. What I didn’t know is that this is even done in lobby’s of office buildings. This I have actually never scene but the book say’s it does happen. If you have kids and are considering getting a pet the more questions you ask the staff the better. The thought on that could be well what questions do I ask, especially if a lot of the details about the pet are printed on a piece of paper or a card that is on it’s cage or carrier. That is true but that is just basic information such as the sex and the breed of the particular animal. A lot of times the animals medical history will be on the information that is presented on the carrier or cage that the animal is in, but if it is not then that is a good place to start with the questions. You can follow up with is the animal nice, Is the animal the type that hides under the bed or scare’s easily, Is the animal mean or do they bite? Another thing to ask is does this particular breed of this pet have a lot of things wrong with them? If yes what types of things does this breed of pet have wrong with them? If possible it is good to bring the whole family when picking out a pet or anyone who is living in the house with you or anyone involved in your daily life.
